I thought about how the entire orientation of the modern world towards matter works against us regarding Nature as a channel of the sacred and as a bearer of meaning. This is a fundamental difference between us sacramental Christians and our Protestant brothers and sisters. Theologian Mary Catherine Hilkert describes the difference between the dialectical (Protestant) imagination, and the sacramental (Catholic, Orthodox, High Church Anglican) imagination like this:
