I stumped Google Maps yesterday. It knew the address of the hospital I was visiting and that there was road construction. I knew the detour around the construction, except for whether the last turn was left or right.
Google maps gave me instructions that by its own knowledge of the address were insane, ending in a residential dead end, “Overlook Drive,” instead of “North River Road.”
When I followed the correct route, Maps went into a death spiral trying to recalculate the route. I halfway expected the app to crash.
Another visitor from out of town got the same mangled information and had to be guided in over the phone by a social worker at the hospital.
Yes, there remains real hope for human intelligence versus artificial.
