My priest is on a brief vacation, so I agreed to stay and lock up after coffee hour and a Parish Council meeting.
The Council meeting took a long time for the best of reasons: how do we handle all the people coming to the Orthodox faith? We’re running out of parking and space in the Nave.
When we built, we knew we would need more parking some day. We didn’t know that we’d be busting the seams (well, almost) in less than ten years.
My theory when we built was that we’d encourage formation of a second parish in town when we outgrew this space. It’s not really designed for expansion of the worship space (versus fellowship hall and other ancillary space).
Now I’m not so sure, for reasons both “optical” and practical. But diocesan rules bar me (I’m technically clergy) from the Parish Council, so my opinion gets its voice once yearly, at the congregational meeting, along with everyone else.
I’d link to our website except that it can’t keep up either.
